Royal Visit for Knightstone Island

On Friday 20th July, Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh visited Knighstone Island, which has been redeveloped following work by DJB.

The redevelopment of Knightstone Island was part of overarching plans to revive seafront areas of Weston-super-Mare, a popular resort on the Somerset coast.  DJB, acting on behalf of North Somerset Council, successfully completed legal negotiations with the developer, Redrow Homes (South West) Ltd, to allow the procurement of planning permission for the site.  DJB also completed work in relation to a Section 106 agreement and complex leasework for the project.

Knightstone Island is now a mixed use site with residential and commercial units.  As well as the construction of new buildings, the project included the multimillion-pound restoration of three Grade II listed buildings on Knighstone Island.

Her Majesty re-opened a perimeter walkway around the site, which was originally opened in 1953, the year of her coronation.  The Queen also placed the last tile in a mural commissioned to complement the area's restoration during her visit.
