Healthy Start for DJB Client

The UK's largest ever Primary Health Care facility opened its doors to patients for the first time at the beginning of August.  The Aldershot Centre for Health is an unusual joint venture between DJB's client- Defence Estates (the MoD) – Hampshire PCT and the developers, Wilky Group.  The Army will run 20% of the building, providing care to military personnel, whilst the remainder is run by the PCT, providing care to the wider community.  It is anticipated that the 770 room centre, which has 900 metres of corridor and 400 staff, will be visited by 2,700 patients per day.  The new building is owned by developers Wilky Group and will be leased to Hampshire PCT and the Army for 30 years, at which point it will be transferred to Hampshire PCT for the token sum of £1.  DJB provided Defence Estates with legal services relating to this unusual hybrid of a PFI deal/occupational lease.
